WRITING • EDITING • ADVOCACY • ORGANIZING
I’ve worked as a freelance writer and editor since 1999. I copyedit the University of Minnesota’s award-winning alumni magazine, Minnesota, write the monthly e-newsletter for FairVote Minnesota, and write frequently for Minnesota Medicine and the University’s Women’s Health and Medical Bulletin newsletters. I’ve written content for a health education video game and for a flu-campaign website. Other recent clips include essays for the Conservation Volunteer and travel articles for the Star Tribune and St. Paul Pioneer Press. I’ve written articles and reviews for Spirituality and Health, Sierra, In These Times, America, Orion Afield, The Chicago Tribune and numerous other periodicals.
I’m a creative, energetic and nimble publicist. I served as a communications staffer on Rep. Keith Ellison’s successful 2006 Congressional campaign, and was the publicity manager for Nanci Oleson’s 2007 MOMbo Mother’s Day Celebration. My speeches, press releases and promotional pieces yield real results. I have a knack for “connecting the dots:” seeing the ways different issues and communities overlap, and using the written word to inspire and motivate people.
